Benoni based company Harcourts Elite, in association with the Harcourts Foundation, donated R20 000 to the Down Syndrome Association of Pretoria for their annual athletics day recently.

The association provides support to parents of children with Down syndrome as well as assistance to children and adults with Down syndrome.

Harcourts Elite Business owner Lydia van der Merwe said the money donated was used for the association’s annual sports day, held at the Bestmed Tuks Stadium on September 1.

“Over 500 children and adults with Down syndrome competed in both track and field events,” said van der Merwe.

“One of our staff member’s sons, Malakai Sheasby, who has Mosaic Down syndrome, competed in the day and came second in his u-4 60m race.”

According to Richard Gray, CEO of Harcourts South Africa, the Harcourts Foundation was launched on the back of an overwhelming response from its members wanting to make a difference to their local communities.

“Through ongoing fund-raising efforts, sponsorships and voluntary commission contributions by agents, our group has raised more than R73-million for the Foundation,” said Gray.

“By assisting the Down Syndrome Association of Pretoria, which does so much for so many with so little, we’re upholding the Harcourts Foundation’s commitment by providing support to help, grow and enrich our communities.”
