The Harcourts Foundation, Harcourts Real Estate's charitable arm, has donated half a million rand to South African charities this year. We're really humbled by the stories of those who benefited from our fundraising. And are so proud we were able to assist.

Harcourts South Africa is committed to the communities in South Africa in desperate need of a helping hand. It is imperative for us to give back and to encourage others to do the same. This way we build a culture within our business that always considers those that need help most. And we've really seen how these charitable activities influence our internal and external roleplayers. Our Foundation really is at the heart of our core values – people first, doing the right thing, being courageous and fun and laughter – and is the embodiment of what it means to be part of Harcourts. Now operating in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and the United States, The Harcourts Foundation has raised more than $5 million dollars, made over 700 grants to charitable organisations, and assisted thousands of people in need, with 100% of funds raised going directly back into our communities.

Here are a few of our fundraising stories:

Love Story, Leva Foundation: The Harcourts Foundation recently donated R10 000 to the Love Story charity. This hard-working team of volunteers and workers rely on donations from the public to run soup kitchens in Port Elizabeth. They also provide care hampers for the destitute and make up hampers for mothers of newborn babies at Dora Nginza Hospital. At the moment they have a big need for any food items and baby clothing.

Down Syndrome Association: This association is committed to improving the lives of all people with Down Syndrome. Their annual athletic day was held on 1 September 2018. Athletes competed in all field and track events. Approximately 500 athletes participated in the event. www.downsyndromepretoria.co.za. Harcourts Elite set up a stand with a colouring-in station for the kids, they had sweets, chips and cold drink with some giveaways. They also set up Gazeebos on the field for athletes.

Nga Tshilidzi Old age home: They have 50 elderly people, many of them suffering from dementia and other disorders. To motivate them to partake in regular exercise and teach them to design dementia-friendly gardens. The grant was used to purchase various items i.e. leisure shoes, water bottles, hula hoops, soccer balls, yoga mats etc.

Jumping Kids Prosthetic: Their main objection is to identify children that have suffered the trauma of limb amputation. Their goal is to give them access to mobility and translate that into access to education and sporting opportunities. An event was held for abled and disabled athletes hosted by Louis Trichardt High School. Funds were used towards the fitment of one athlete.

CANSA Fundraiser: Harcourts Mandela Bay in association with CANSA organised a music trivia evening on the 7th of September 2018. Their mission is to be the preferred non-profit leader that enables research with regards to lowering cancer risk, educating the public regarding symptoms and risk reduction.

Huis Immergroen: Harcourts Destiny organised a fundraising event for the old age home by way of a fun run. A total of R8500 was handed over.

The Tygerberg Hospice Trust: They aim to provide inpatient transitional care for patients to regain skills and abilities in daily living, with the ultimate discharge destination being home or an alternative supported living environment. Tygerberg Hospice Community care is an ongoing project, providing free health services to the community, due to limited funding the grant will assist them in providing much-needed services to the community.

The Harcourts Foundation, Walk a Mile in Their Shoes fundraiser event took place on July 14th, to help raise funds for iDUC, a registered non-profit organization which aims to raise awareness about gender-based violence and assist victims of abuse. After a few broken heels and near-sprained ankles, the Harcourts team finally crossed the finish line in support of gender-based violence, raising over R177,900 in support of iDuc. The Harcourts Walk a Mile in Their Shoes fundraiser event was a tremendous success! And what an astounding show of camaraderie and inspiring humanity it was.
